Yaz Blood ClotsWhat can Yaz/Yazmin cause?
• Death. Yaz/Yazmin suspected as the cause of death of more than 100 women, according to various studies and reports.
Serious injury. Yaz/Yazmin takers face greater risk of developing blood clots or venous thromboembolism than do women taking other birth-control pills, according to U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
You’re at risk of Yaz blood clots if you’ve used Yaz/Yazmin for at least one year.
• The main ingredient inYaz/Yazmin is drospirenone. The FDA and reputable researchers have expressed concerns about the safety of drospirenone. Findings show that one of every 1,000 women who take drospirenone-based birth-control pills develop Yaz blood clots or venous thromboembolism. One study reported that Yaz/Yasmin takers’ risk of blood clots is 100 percent greater than for women taking something else.
• The maker of Yaz/Yazmin knew about the greater Yaz blood clot risk but failed to tell the FDA what it knew, even though required by law to do so – and, when the company finally got around to it, the information submitted was shaded to make the blood clot risk seem not so bad (New York Times).
